Recommendations for using winter tyres

DATE

Weather conditions are considered to be winter ones, when there is snow, ice or slush on any stretch of the road, as well as if the road is wet in combination with the temperature of about or below  0 ° C , and daily average temperature is below 5-7 ° C.

  • Studded tyres are allowed for use from October 15 …
  • Obligatory use of winter tyres is from December1 through March 1
  • The tread depth for a winter tyre shall be minimum 3.0 millimeters, however, the recommended depth is 4.0 millimeters
  • It is required to drive your winter tyres around: smoothly move the car from the standstill, gradually gain the speed  and avoid  hard braking over a distance of  first 500 km
  • According to the standards established by the tyre producers, the winter tyre is a tyre bearing the symbol of a three-peak mountain with a snowflake inside
  • On a weekly basis, check and keep up the tyre pressure on the level recommended by the car manufacturer
  • To avoid skidding, tyres with less worn tread are always to be installed on the rare axle
  • Avoid overloading of the car
  • The cause of uneven tread wear shall be immediately repaired
  • Try to avoid bumps upon the tread, especially impacts against sharp objects
  • Antiskid chains are to be used only in hardly passable places
  • Avoid wheel slips at the beginning of movement
  • If the car skids sideways, immediately identify and eliminate the cause
  • Take care of yourself and of your nearest and dearest!

The table shows the requirements for winter and studded tyres for vehicles whose total weight does not exceed 3.5 tons.
